TECHNOLOGY

3D Video Game Design (similar to Xbox 360) [Ages 12-15]
Dig deep into the inner workings of computer game design. This tek lab will share the steps of the game development cycle. Explore and modify the code in Visual C# Express. This is the same program that is used to make Xbox 3D games. Participants will make an asteroids game and a flight simulator. Bring a thumb drive to save your projects.

Making an iPhone App [Ages 12 - 15]
This tek lab will explore the process of creating iPhone apps. Participants will acquire the skills of basic programming, digital animation, and digital sound mixing to create fun and exciting games on your device such as Super Mario. An iPhone is not required to take this camp as the games are developed on a computer. However, you are welcome to bring your own iPhone and put the games on it for $19.99.

Making Games for Samsung Android Phones Advanced [Ages 12-15]
Participants will discover how to create complex Apps on a computer that appear on your Android phone as you build them. Participants will experience the basics of computer programming to design a landscape, learn basic animation, mix digital sounds, and make special effects such as explosions to be used in their apps. An Android is not required to take this camp as the games are developed on a computer.

Making Games for the Nintendo DS [Ages 12-15]
Wish you could make your own video game on the Nintendo DS? No need to write a program. This class will show you how to use easy drop-and-drag actions to create professional looking games. Students will use DS Game Maker to create backgrounds, animated graphics, sound effects and music. A Nintendo DS is not required to take this camp as the games can be developed on the computer


2D Video Game Design with Gamemaker 8.1 [Ages 8-11]
Wish you could make your own video game? No need to write a program. This class will show you how to use easy drop-and-drag actions to create professional looking games. Students will use Gamemaker 8.1 to create backgrounds, animated graphics, sound effects and music. The Lite Edition is only available for Windows based PCs.

2D Video Game Design with Scratch [Ages 8-11]
Design a basic computer video game. Students will learn computer graphic techniques and animation fundamentals. Create an exciting landscape for your game. Load, animate sprites and add sound.

2D Video Game Design with Scratch- Advanced [Ages 8-11]
Take your video game to the next level by designing a scrolling game. Learn how to do character animations, program with variables, and program an interactive landscape. Prior experience with Scratch is required for this camp.

Making Games for Samsung Android Phones [Ages 8 - 11]
Create Apps on your computer that appear live on your Android phone as you build them. Kids will learn the basics of computer programming to create a contact list that will display pictures, draw applications, use multiple colors, and create a Whac-a-Mole Arcade Game. An Android is not required to take this camp as the games are developed on a computer.

Minecraft [Ages 8-11]
Create a game with 3D models, support your team members, and battle against powerful enemies. Implement modding into your gaming masterpiece. Acquire resources and maintain health. There will be plenty of time to test your models with other tekkies.

Scratch with Makey Makey Board [Ages 8-11] Take your video game to the next level by designing a scrolling game. Campers work in teams of 2 and learn how to do character animations, program with variables, and use a Makey Makey Board to play your game. Prior experience with Scratch 2.0 is required for this camp.

Kodu Video Game Design [Ages 8-11] Tekkies work in teams of 2, build a game environment, create objects, add characters and make a hide-and-seek mystery.


First Experiences [Ages 4-6]
Have a fun time being introduced to chemistry, computer programming, and artistry in this Tek Lab. Participants will do hands-on chemistry experiments, learn basic computer programming skills, and learn the art of drawing and painting on a computer. Note that there will be frequent breaks during this camp.

Tux Trio [Ages 5 - 8]
This is a fun filled class with something different each day. Students will experience three different areas in one class: Art, Math and Language Arts. One day is spent working on the Art of Drawing and Painting on a Computer using Tux Paint. Another day they will do challenging Math problems using Tux Math software. The third day is practicing the Alphabet- Upper/Lower Case Letters to develop good keyboarding skills. Three classes in one...all while having fun!

ENGINEERING

Battlebots [Ages 12 - 15]
Robot warriors clash! Students will build battle robots using everyday materials and make them fight against each other. First campers do a step-by-step lesson to build a basic motorized bot, then they have freedom to create their own custom design, armor, and weapons. Students will build their robotic combatants in teams of 3-4.

Raspberry Pi [Ages 12-15] Don't think a credit-card sized computer can do much? Guess again. Campers will use a computer called Raspberry Pi to do computer animations, design games, and make simple window applications. Participants work in teams of two.

Make a Funutation Bot [Ages 12-15] Here is your chance to build and program the Funutation bot! Campers will program the Funutation bot to avoid obstacles and use a Smartphone to move the bot around the room. Campers are encouraged to bring their Smartphones to this event. Participants will work in teams of 2.

Robotronix with the Parallax Sumo Bot [Ages 12-15]
Build and control a (SumoBot) robot that can detect an opponent and avoid obstacles. A computer program is used to set and modify the robots movements. Learn mechanical design, construction and programming. Students work in teams of two per computer. Battle for control Sumo-style; try to win the robot competition in the final class. Funutation will provide laptop.

Computer Build and Repair [Ages 12-15]
Want a faster computer with more memory? This is the class for you. Take apart a computer and learn a computer's hardware components. Learn how to install operating sytems and software, reassemble, upgrade, and debug a computer. Students work in teams of two.

Hyper Peppy [Ages 12- 15]
Explore the mechanism of a hyper peppy robot. Discover how it reacts to vibration from sound and touch. Clap your hands and experience the fast movement of the Hyper Peppy. It moves forward, backwards and starts its own route. This tek lab is perfect for a future engineer who will enjoy building a robot and take it home to show friends and family.


K'nex Robotics [Ages 8-11]
Discover how real-world Amusement Park rides work using K'nex models. Teams of 4 will use K'nex control boxes, lights, and motors to program a Spinning Carpet, Double Ferris Wheel, a Tramcar, and many other models.

LegoNXT Robotics [Ages 8 -11] Experience the thrills of Lego NXT programming. Campers will be introduced to the basics of NXT-G programming. They will work in teams of 3 and program a robot to move, turn, navigate a maze, and finish up by programming a robot to follow a line.

Introduction to K'nex Robotics [Ages 4-6]
Parents and children are welcome to come and learn how to build spider, bird, and snake K'nex models. These kits include big, bright and colorful pieces to aid in building these models. This class will be 1 hour/week.

ART

Digital Art and Animation [Ages 12-15]
Students will use Alice software to create a 3D programming environment with animations can that tell a story, become an interactive game or simply do a dance. Create a virtual world and then animate the objects within that world such as people, animals, and vehicles. While making games and animations students are learning the principles behind Java, C++ and C#.

Digital Photography with Darkroom [Ages 12-15]
Create professional looking designer graphics. Students learn the basics of image editing and go through the functions and tools of the GIMP Basic techniques such as cropping, rotating, removing red eye, and cloning. This course shows non-designers how to create or manipulate graphics for many uses. We also cover the more advanced techniques of working with layers and masks. We have easy-to-follow techniques and tips using the advanced features that will apply your creativity and lead to amazing graphics.


Stop Motion Animation [Ages 8-11]
Discover the secrets behind computer animation by using Scratch software. Kids can create their own video with everyday objects adding special effects and audio.


Computer Animation [Ages 8-11] Get ready to animate! Take a picture of you, your friend, or other objects and start making your animation. Campers will learn how to use pictures that they take or draw to make a 2D animation complete with sounds, special effects, and scenery.

MATH

Amazing Roller Coasters [Ages 8-11]
Be part of the design and engineering team that builds a working miniature roller coaster, 3 feet long and 3 feet high! Make it fast, fun and safe. Build steep inclines and exciting drops while understanding the mechanics of roller coasters. Kids will go home with an amusement ride kit.

Discover the World of Physics [Ages 8-11]
Participants will receive their very own Physics Kit with enough materials to build 12 models and conduct numerous experiments. Learn the fundamentals of mechanical physics such as centrifugal force and simple machines like pulleys and wheels. Build a motor, catapult, freight elevator, bicycle, and dragster. Students will have fun while they learn important scientific concepts.

Jr. Engineer Beginner [Ages 8-11]
Your children will love these hands-on Engineering and Physics activities. Students learn about simple machines such as levers, force and pulleys. They will build a race car, wind-up car, helicopter, pinwheel, parachute, glider, balloon rocket, and an air-powered carousel to learn the mechanics of land vehicles. Engineering can be fun!

SCIENCE

The Electronix Lab [Ages 8-11]

This tek lab has over 20 hands-on electronics projects that participants get to keep! Participants learn electronics and physics in a fun way. Work at your own pace to make all the projects and do them again at home or make your own. Participants will learn about and keep solder less circuit boards, resistors, capacitors, light-emitting diodes, transistors, speaker, photocells and potentiometers. This early introduction to electronics will be fun and exciting!

Paricipants will do hands-on chemistry experiements, learn basic computer programming skills, and learn the art of drawing and painting on a computer.
