Frequently Asked Questions
How long have you been running computer camps?
Funutation Camps has been running
camps since 2002. We update our
curriculum continually so that
students will learn cutting edge
concepts at an early age. Our staff
is background checked, trained, and
re-trained annually to teach new
concepts, safety, and working
effectively with children.
Where do you recommend my child start?
Web Design and 2D Video Game Design are ideal for children wanting to get started with technology. Robotronix and 3D Video Game Design are for advanced students. Our entire curriculum is modular and our staff is available to speak with any potential student who has questions.
Do you accept children with disabilities such as ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome?
Yes! We do accept children with disabilities in our camps. Our staff is trained to handle these kids and ensure that they learn to the best of their ability. In order to maximize our staff's effectiveness, please call us in advance to let us know how we can accomodate your child's needs.
Where can I register?
With your local Recreation
Department or Community Education
Department.
Do you have early drop-off and
late pick-up services for my child?
Yes, our instructors are available before and after class.
How much do you charge for before
and after care?
Early drop off is at 7:30AM and
is $35.00 per week.
Late pick up until 6:00PM is $45.00
per week.
Early drop off and late pick up combined is
$75.00 per week.
How does the program work? Do
campers just take one topic per
week?
Students enroll in one course per
week. Our program is designed to
give the child a thorough
understanding of the topic in one
week. If they enroll in multiple
weeks, they can take a different
course, or continue their learning
in the same course by completing
more of the advanced modules.
Will 8-year olds be in the same
class as the 15-year olds?
The teams are roughly divided into age
groups of 8-11 years old and 12-15
years old because of the different
maturity levels. The age range for
our courses is continually evaluated
and modified based on feedback from
students and our experience.
Will every child get their own
computer?
We encourage team learning, students
work as teams (pairing ages 8-11 &
12-15 when possible).
Will friends be together if they
both sign up for the same program?
Yes, students are all in the same
area or set of rooms. Friends can
choose to work with each other and partner up in the class.
What's the camper: staff ratio?
We do adhere to a strict 6 to 1
student to teacher ratio for summer
courses and an 8 to 1 student to
teacher ratio for after-school and
weekend classes. Larger
classes will have more instructors so that your child gets
the attention they deserve.
Are parents allowed to sit in on the
class?
No,
parents are invited on the last hour
of the last day for a
demonstration. To facilitate the learning process
and as a security precaution, only
class participants are allowed in
the classrooms. Parental presence creates a distraction -
to maintain an effective learning
environment, parents are not allowed
to sit in on the class.
What are the backgrounds of your
instructors?
Our instructors either possess or are working towards a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in technology, animation, programming, or science. Many of our instructors teach programs in our year-round programs or have taught programs in previous summers. Our instructors are trained to work with children and are rigorously trained in a variety of competencies.
We have proven personnel who want to help you look out for your child's future! Course instructors are up-to-date with the latest technologies in the industry, trained in CPR by the American Red Cross, and know how to work with kids who have Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD. Our instructors pass state certified background screening.
Mostly important, our instructors also know how to have FUN!
Do you have year round programming?
Yes, we offer programs year round,
summer, after school and on weekends
(Saturday & Sunday) through local community education and recreation
centers.
What learning tools do you use?
Funutation Camps uses cutting-edge
software that is used by real-world
practitioners in their industries, and
are low-cost or no-cost so that
students can continue their studies
at home without making a huge
investment into tools that they may
soon become bored with. The
knowledge gained in the camps
transfers smoothly to other tools
whether no-cost or hugely expensive.
Do you use special hardware?
We use laptop computers that allow students to connect programmable robots, electronic musical instruments, cameras, and other cool gadgets.
What is your privacy policy?
Funutation does not share any personal information, including email addresses, with third parties interested in contacting you or collecting information about you. In addition, we DO NOT sell, give or trade personal information we collect from online, phone, or mail-in registrations.
Do you have classes for adults?
Yes, but not as a part of Funutation Camps. We offer everything from Microsoft and Web design training to Linux Certification. If you'd like, we can have a representative contact you with details.
